Top Five Myths about Sperm Banks

Modern technology has allowed for various medical miracles in a variety of fields and one of those miracles is - allowing any woman to have a child, regardless of her status and relationship. Sperm banks are a great source for same sex couples and infertile partners to help in the conception of a child.

Although, there are a lot of misconceptions about what these banks are and how they work. Here are top five myths about artificial insemination and sperm bank industry.

Myth #1: Sperm Donation is a new and unknown technology. Absolutely wrong! Sperm Donation has been around for almost half a century now. In fact, there is a bank present in almost every state.

Myth #2: Very few people use this method. This misconception is because of the unawareness. In fact, the reality is that one in eight infertile couples need sperm donors to conceive. One type of insemination procedure requires a syringe to place semen into the vagina of woman. This assists her in getting pregnant. Another procedure is called intrauterine insemination in which a physician uses a thin, flexible tube called a catheter to put sperm into the reproductive track of a woman.

Myth #3: This process does not always work. A lot of people believe that very few children are born with this process. Wrong! The studies show that the number of donor inseminated births is between 4,000 - 5,000 births per year.

Myth #4: Sperm banks are not credible enough. The fact is these banks are the most credible when it comes to sperm donation. They perform every medical checkup required such as STDs, check donors for hormonal diseases etc. so that the receiver can remain safe during the procedure. They also quarantine sperm for months before selling it to the recipient.

Myth #5: It makes the entire process from conception till birth different. For the recipient of sperm, the treatment by the doctor will be same. Whether conception is done through sperm donors or by using a partner, the treatment and delivery by sperm donation is no different from conception achieved by intercourse.

Whether you are a same sex couple or an infertile couple, if you feel that the process of sperm donation can help you have a baby, you may search for accredited banks nearby or online. Make sure to check the accreditation and credibility of a bank before going through the process.
